THE 5TH ANNUAL CYTRX STRIKE OUT LOU GEHRIG'S DISEASE
ALL-STAR TOURNAMENT
July 23, 2009

An Invitation To Our Tournament Players and Families:

This year marks the 70th Anniversary of Lou Gehrig's famous farewell speech to his fans. On July 4, 1939, ALS had finally proven to be too much for "The Iron Horse" and he announced his retirement.

To commemorate this day in baseball history and to celebrate the career of Lou Gehrig, the Opening Day of The 5th Annual CytRx Strike Out Lou Gehrig's Disease All Star Tournament's is one you will not want to miss. As a tournament player, you and your family will be our guests at USC's Dedeaux Field on July 23rd beginning at 3:00 P.M. to kick-off the tournament with a special day of baseball and fun that you will remember for a lifetime.

CLINIC GUEST INSTRUCTORS

Fred Lynn
After graduation from USC, Fred Lynn started his career for the Boston Red Sox with a phenomenal 1975 season in which he won the Most Valuable Player and Rookie of the Year awards, the first player ever to win both in the same season. In 1975, Lynn led the American League in doubles, runs scored and slugging percentage, finished second in the batting race with a .331 average, and won a Gold Glove Award. Lynn has 306 career home runs.

Bret Boone
A graduate of USC, Bret Boone was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in 1990 and played in the majors until retiring in 2005. During that time Bret earned 4 Gold Gloves awards while appearing in 3 All Star games. In 2001 Bret led the American League in RBIs with 141 with a 578 slugging percentage. He retired with 252 career home runs.



 

USC COACHING STAFF INSTRUCTORS


Chad Kreuter - Head Coach: University of Southern California
A fifteen year MLB veteran, Chad Kreuter was a catcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers. In June of 2006 Chad had the honor of taking over the for the USC baseball program after his father-in-law, Mike Gillespie, retired.

Doyle Wilson - Assistant Coach: University of Southern California
Doyle Wilson begins his first season as an assistant coach at USC. As a ninth-round selection by the Cleveland Indians in 1986, he played four seasons in the organization and later started his coaching career.

Tom House - Assistant Coach: University of Southern California
Tom House is a well-known pitching guru After being selected by the Atlanta Braves in the third of the 1967 secondary draft, House made his major league debut in 1971 He would play through the 1978 season with career stops at Atlanta, Boston and Seattle. In his 289 major league appearances, House compiled a 29-23 record with a 3.79 ERA and 33 saves.

Frank Cruz - Assistant Coach: University of Southern California
During his four years as an assistant coach at USC, the Trojans compiled a 169-86-1 record and made four straight NCAA Tournament appearances. In 1995, USC made its first College World Series appearance in 17 years, reaching the championship game and finishing with a 49-21 record.
